Workstations, by definition, are powerful computers that outclass all but the most overkill of consumer desktops by a mile in terms of performance and price. ACME wanted to go even more overboard than usual though, so it made the MegaPAC L2.

The company describes its invention as a portable workstation, but we'll caution you not to assume that's the same thing as “mobile” workstation.

The new system is, after all, not a laptop. It's far too bulky for that. ACME doesn't even try to make it look like one really. Instead, ACME Portable decided to make it easier to carry the thing around like a suitcase.

We admit that the shape does seem to provide some sort of maneuverability. However, the weight isn't one that encourages anyone to hold it off the ground for any extended period. After all, 12 kilograms / 26 pounds is far from “portable.”

Nevertheless, the ACME MegaPAC L2 can be taken to and from a supply and equipment van with relative ease, so long as the one carrying it doesn't have to cover miles on foot. So, in that regard, ACME has, mostly, fulfilled the prerequisites needed to label something as “portable.”

Since we're on the subject, we may as well say how big the thing is: 15.12 x 23.11 x 9.02 inches / 381 x 596 x 229 mm.

Thus, the screen size (for both displays) is of 23 inches in diagonal. Not bad for fully backlit LCDs with 16:9 aspect ratio and Full HD / 4K resolution (one has 1920 x 1080 and another 3840 x 2160 pixels resolution).

Inside the ACME MegaPAC L2 there is an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 graphics card, or a Quadro K6000 professional board.

If you intend to use the computer for post-production work, or 3D rendering and professional photography, you might want to select the latter.

You could even get more than one board, since there are at least three PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots inside. Specifically, you can have 3x PCI-E 3.0 x16, 2x PCI-E 3.0 x8 and 1x PCI-E 3.0 x4 (in x8 slot), or 4x PCI-E 3.0 x16 (support x16; x16/x16; x16/x8/x16 and x16/x8/x8/x8) with 2x PCI-E 3.0 x1.

2-6 SATA III storage devices are also available (SATA 6.0 Gbps), as well as 4 – 6 SATA II ones (SATA 3.0 Gbps).

Furthermore, you can have either one or two Gigabit LAN ports, plus varying I/O options (USB 3.0, audio, USB 2.0, etc.). There's a whole spec sheet on the ACME Portable Machines MegaPAC L2 product page.

3D CAD design, NLE editing, 3D capture, Visual Effects, advanced Graphics editing and Live Streaming are a few of the things that the newcomer supports.
