Good news for Windows Phone fans in the United States, as the latest smartphone powered by Microsoft’s operating system that made its debut in the country, the HTC One M8, is GSM SIM-unlocked.

Although the smartphone is now exclusively available in the US through Verizon Wireless, it appears that those who are tied with long-time contracts with other carriers but want the HTC One M8 for Windows badly will be able to use it with SIM cards from other operators.

As WMPoweruser points out, customers who buy the HTC One M8 for Windows will be able to use it with other carriers, but you should keep in mind that the smartphone supports Verizon’s LTE bands 4 and 13.

However, HTC One M8 for Windows has already been certified for LTE band 3 and 7, which are mostly used here in Europe. This means that you will be able to use all the data features included in the phone, even though the smartphone is exclusively available from Verizon.

Speaking of which, those who wish to import the phone from the United States will have to pay Verizon no less than $600 (€450) for the HTC One M8 for Windows and then add any tax required by their country’s custom.

What do you think? Is it worth the trouble of paying such a high amount to own world’s most powerful Windows Phone handset?
